Japan's Leading Satellite Operator - JSAT - Selects Hawaii-Pacific Teleport, Linking Asia to North America
Kapolei, Hawaii, Hawaii-Pacific Teleport (“HPT”) announced today that it has won a contract from JSAT Corporation, the leading Japanese satellite operator, to provide satellite uplink and downlink services to JSAT's new satellite, JCSAT-2A. HPT will link Internet and data users on the JCSAT-2A spacecraft with other satellites and fiber-optic cables serving US and Latin American markets. JCSAT-2A, which will be launched at the end of this year, replaces JCSAT-2 at 154 East Longitude.
Vince Waterson, Vice President of Business Development, who negotiated the contract for HPT, said, "JSAT Corporation is one of Asia's largest satellite operators, serving for the largest DTH platform in Asia named SkyPerfecTV! with millions of customers throughout Japan. The facilities at the Hawaii-Pacific Teleport offer JSAT tremendous growth opportunities and connectivity that will expand their business-base well beyond the Pacific Rim."
JSAT Corporation supplies communications and broadcasting services via eight satellites in seven orbital slots. Transvision will provide the uplink and downlink service to the JSAT-2A spacecraft using a new 11-meter C-Band antenna.
HPT currently has seven-, nine- and 11-meter antennas, with the nine- and 11-meter antennas pointed to Agila2 (146 E) and Measat2 (148 E) respectively. The company will install a second 11-meter antenna for the JCSAT-2A satellite. In addition, HPT links to a Time Warner Telecoms' local DS3 (45Mbps) fiber loop, which provides connectivity to the Southern Cross fiber-optic cable network and to the US mainland. The teleport also serves as a satellite and fiber gateway that connects the Internet backbone on the US West Coast and the 1 Wilshire Building (Los Angeles International Telephony Switching Center) with any satellite-ready location in Asia as far west as the Indian sub-continent. For broadcasters, HPT provides video relay services between Asian satellites and US domestic satellites for contribution video services from major events in both Asia and the US.
